Indian-born, Siona Fernandes, was the first female representing New Zealand when boxing made its debut at the London 2012 Olympic games.
Her story began in the Portuguese colony of India, Goa, grounding her athleticism through more than a decade of intense physical training in the Indian classical dance style of ‘Bharatanatyam’.
Siona is currently pursuing her PhD in Australia, after a successful completion of her Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Science in New Zealand. She holds a Master of psychology (clinical) alongside a bachelors in performing arts achieved during her years in India.
